Darren Aronofsky's new psychological thriller, "Black Swan," follows a ballerina to the brink of insanity. Though the film is pretty intense, we're lucky that the fashion is as well, with luscious stage-worthy textures and gobs of soft feathers. Oh, and the costumes were designed by Rodarte.

A dramatic black tutu and menacing eye makeup make the Black Swan a fearsome force onstage. We're not to prepared to reveal quite so much tush, but we're definitely digging the fluffy chiffon and crinkled metal headband.

Chloe's spring collection is uniquely suited to a Black Swan-inspired ensemble, what with all those ankle-grazing sheer skirts and slinky silk blouses.

Do we detect a bit of ballerina-fever in this ruby red look from Lanvin for H&M? Granted, ruby red wasn't in the palette for Black Swan, but crimson is said to be the color of madness, and Portman plays one nutty prima ballerina in the film.

The fluid movement and classic prima-ballerina pink of Badgley Mischka's cocktail dress evoke the grace of Black Swan dancers. Even if you're not stage-bound, we think it would make a lovely choice for an evening of proper NYC theatre-going.

Giorgio Armani's romantic jet black evening looks would be appropriate for the Black Swan, Portman's main balletic competition (played by Mila Kunis). The subtle beading and romantic poufs of chiffon on this silky pantsuit give the look a theatrical effect.

Our own take on Black Swan style was inspired by Edward Degas' dreamy dancers: a swishy lace skirt from Modcloth ($50 at Modcloth) and an embroidered vest by Tsumori Chisato ($684 at La Garconne) create a ladylike base, while a spooky silver mask from Kiki de Montparnasse ($175 at Kiki) adds a touch of mystique. In true ballerina fashion, we finished the look with pale pink dance shoes ($32 at Topshop), and for practicality's sake, added a structured corset top from Only Hearts ($62 at Anthropologie).
