Comey told us backstage that she felt her spring collection was a bit more "serious" than what she's used to doing, and the numbers stand up: The designer sent a whopping 42 looks down the runway, and a varied mix of looks at that.
While she insisted that she was definitely hoping Spring 2011 wouldn't be as warm as this one was, she definitely had keeping cool in mind with a series of cropped blouses cut away from the body, flowing dresses, and bloused pants.
That said, there was an impressive amount of structural details in this collection, including tailored button-back blouses with sexy cut-out details and, most notably, a series of printed tops and dresses with built-in corsets and a fair amount of ruching.
While the collection started off with sweet, black and white looks (including a few semi-sheer polka dot white separates), lovers of Comey's prints will not be disappointed: Spring's offerings run the gamut from remained tartan plaids to watery checks and tight, abstracted black-and-white patterns. Fans of her shoes will be equally thrilled: Comey has created what one gal backstage referred to as "stupid amazing" shoes with square, platform wooden heels.
