Yesterday we reported on Phoebe Philo's big win after being named "Designer of the Year" by the British Fashion Council, but there was a load of other notable honors at the British Fashion Awards last night. Mulberry received the title of Designer Brand of the Year, and shoe master Nicholas Kirkwood was honored for his work in accessories. Not altogether surprisingly, Alexa Chung took home the British Style Award, while Nicola Formichetti, the stylist responsible for Lady Gaga's turn in drag on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan, was recognized with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator of the Year.
In addition to paying tribute to Alexander McQueen with the posthumous Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design Award as well as a short film showcasing the late designer's most visionary and iconic creations, the British Fashion Council also awarded Naomi Campbell with its Special Recognition Award for her 25 years in the business. Campbell, who started modeling when she was 15 was visibly touched as she gave her acceptance speech: ""orry I just got all teary, it's just overwhelming to be recognised in your own country, it's a huge privilege and it makes me feel very proud to be British," she said, while also commenting on her role as a groundbreaking figure for black models. "Women of colour are now far better represented - we still have a long way to go, but I'm very proud."
