One to Watch: Brochu Walker's Beachy Bohemian Chic

Design partners Lisa Brochu and Lauren Walker cut their teeth at indie-chic brands like Joie and Yaya Aflalo before deciding to launch their own line, Brochu Walker.

"We share a similar core aesthetic, but we bring our own personal twist to that," says Brochu. "I love more classic, tailored menswear pieces while Lauren is beachy and bohemian, with an edge. When we develop the line, both points of view are thrown into the mix to create the perfect balance."

The collection inherits both women's good taste with comfy, casual separates that seem as equally suited to the beach as they are to the office.

Tactility and comfort are important aspects of the line, which incorporates natural fibers and specialty materials like metallics, boucle, and leather and suede accents. "We pay close attention to hand-feel and fabric weights, always making sure that our garments feel soft on the body," says Brochu, who describes the brand's target customer as "trend aware, but never trendy."

Now in its third year of business, both designers say they've struck upon their perfect collaborative rhythm.

"We conceptualize and merchandise the line together, and then divide and conquer all that is necessary to bring the collection to fruition," explains Walker, who focuses on planning and sales while Brochu handles the design and production of the collection. This summer, they'll launch their first home collection in conjunction with Heist Boutique in Venice, Calif.
