FIT grads Angel Garafalo and Lauren Pratt opened Skyfish Boutique a few weeks ago, bringing chic swimwear to a spare little space in the LES.
With just its name stenciled along the exterior grating, the boutique gives little evidence to the fashion in store. The interior is similarly stark, containing only a pair of vaguely midcentury armchairs and a bubbly chandelier to provide the shop's one point of intricacy.
And that's really because the swimwear line speaks for itself, with just two racks lined with racy-smart bikinis ($180) and maillots ($256) in Garagalo's and Pratt's edgy prints (grafitti, mixed graphics, drip-dyes and more). Punctuating the minimal selection is a coat rack, on which two totes from Pratt's bag line, Boyfriendbags, dangle.
Garafalo greeted us with just as much cool as the swimsuits she designs, commanding the mellow vibe that pervaded the store, an oasis from the still-gritty stretch of Rivington where it sits among Dreadlocks by Randi, and a locksmith.
All the elements for a refreshing (and style-focused) swim, indeed.
