Naeem Khan's collections always have an international appeal, but this season the designer focused on not one, but all of the global excursions he went on this year.

And believe us, there were many. "There was travel to exotic places," Naeem told us backstage before his Lincoln Center show. "As well as a beautiful desert place—Arizona. And watching the sky, taking pictures with my phone, sending them to Italy and printing them on organzas. And a trip to Hawaii, where I took pictures of the surf."

Each piece in the collection had its own unique geographic inspiration, like this strapless sunset-print gown rendered in the rusty reds, burnt oranges and warm yellows of Arizona.

Bright blue pieces like a jacquard belted trench gave the collection a cheerful vibe—which is consistent with what we've seen this season from the likes of Rachel Roy, Chris Benz and J.Crew

The main question Naeem was interested in exploring this season was how to "take nature and make it beautiful." His answer? A romantic rose print made modern with a stark black and white treatment.

The regal-looking embellishments that have made Khan a favorite among the likes of Padma Lakshmi, Brooke Shields and Julie Bowen were in abundant supply for spring. Here, an elegant evening gown with a pearly white beaded bodice and bright blue skirt.

While the looks may not be designed as wedding gowns, we imagine a few brides to be were coveting this elaborate long-sleeved white beaded confection as it went down the catwalk.

Khan also took inspiration from Wallis Simpson, a former Duchess of Windsor known for her classic good taste. Here, a lilac-blue gown in delicate lace is accented with tiny white sequins.

Though he's known for his over-the-top evening looks, Khan continued developing more day-ready creations for spring '13. This slouchy belted shirt dress features an ominous-looking black and white sunflower print.

Still, it's clear that evening is where Khan's heart is. This elegant long-sleeved gown is finished in a floral peach lace pattern and sheer nude silk.
