Sacha Walckhoff worked with the legendary French designer Christian Lacroix for 17 years. When the house declared bankruptcy in 2009 and his mentor abruptly left his post, Walckhoff was assigned the monumental task of rebuilding the brand and invigorating its business as creative director. Since then, he's created a sensational new menswear line, as well as licensing operations in home, stationary, eyewear and fragrance.
With so much to accomplish, it's no surprise that Walckhoff requires R&R from time to time. We got in touch with the designer while vacationing in Budapest where, fortuitously, he had kept busy snapping inspiration photos for future collections and accessories. Interestingly, we found the designer's reverence for handmade craft and ingenious design elements came through even in his iPhone snaps.
Traditional Hungarian Head Dress: "I just bought this amazing headpiece, which was worn by Hungarian country girls in the beginning of the last century. I like this abstract (and quite huge) piece out of colorful wool yarns ... almost like a sculpture!
Melted Vinyl: "I loved this amazing eyewear 'presentoir' made out of an old vinyl disc, an idea from Zachary Tiipton, who is also recycling old photo film to do sunglasses!"
Handmade Men's Shoes: "I just fell in love with these men's shoes -- actually made by hand for monks, for them to have cooler feet in the summer. Super clever! I have been lucky enough to find my size as normally you have to order them. It is Monsieur Vass in Budapest who is making them. They ship all around the world!"
