Last Night: Gen Art's Resurrection Benefit

The Gen Art Resurrection Benefit raised funds for artists and designers left high and dry by the non-profit's bankruptcy, amidst art, drinks and a fashion shoot rendition.

While an official "resurrection" is still up in the air--rumors have been swirling about white-knight investors and acquisitions by year end--spirits were high in the meantime at last night's fundraiser. Boardwalk Empire stars Paz de la Huerta and Michael K. Williams walked the red carpet, along with fashion notables like Vena Cava, Milly's Michelle Smith, Duckie Brown and Sophomore NYC.

We talked with Smith about the importance of Gen Art to her own household-name label, Milly. "[Gen Art] sponsored my first fashion show for Fresh Faces in Fashion in 2003. It really put my label on a worldwide stage...Milly had been in business for about two years already but I'd never done a runway show before and they gave my my big chance. Now I show at the tents every year."

Sophomore designers Chrissie Miller and Madeline von Froomer were equally indebted to Gen Art's support: "We did a show with Gen Art last season, which was nice. Without them, it would have been impossible. Also, we're a contemporary brand, and fahsion week is more high-end, so it's nice to have Gen Art to see the upcoming designers."

Inside the party, a center-stage fashion shoot simulation took place, showing off leather apparel from Lost Art's Jordan Betten, while five emerging photographers, Miles Ladin, Arturo, Sam Bassett, Stephen Meierding and Michael Weintrob had work on display.
