Kimora Lee Simmons is Leaving Baby Phat

It seems pretty hard to disassociate Baby Phat from Kimora Lee Simmons, the label's very-visible founding creative director, but come September 1st, she'll be shedding the "phat"--and she's taking the term "fabulosity" with her.

Lee Simmons, who helped found and shape the womenswear label with then-husband Russell Simmons as part of the Phat Pharm franchise, recently announced via Twitter that she's stepping down from the position. Judging by her tweets, the decision to part ways wasn't her own, but rather that of the Kellwood Company, which has owned Baby Phat for the past seven years.

While Lee Simmons has certainly been synonymous with the brand, the loss seems to be more on the part of Baby Phat. The former model and star of Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane still has plenty of fashion-related projects under her rhinestone-encrusted belt, which include running the labels Kouture by Kimora, KLS and Fabulosity.
