"I wanted it to look a little bit like mischievous wood nymphs in a magical forest," Kaelen says of the presentation. "It's light, but a little Stevie in the woods in the '70s."

Kaelen has been showing at Fashion Week for several seasons, but her Fall 2011 collection picked up quite a bit of retail interest. "It's been building and things are moving along really nicely," says Kaelen. "But people have been really amazing from the beginning."

Though the majority of the work in the collection was done at Kaelen's Soho studio, the macrame was hand-done in Bolivia. "I wanted something really romantic, really airy, really ethereal, but there's also something a little bit … witchy," says Kaelen.

While Kaelen insists that the collection itself came together far more easily than certain past collections, this draped velvet dress was a particular challenge. "The drape was killing me, I was re-positioning it every five seconds."
