Juan Carlos Obando: Minimalist, Slim-Cut Separates with Over-the-Knee Lace-Ups

Of the shows we've yet seen, Juan Carlos Obando seems the most singularly focused on the body (possible runners-up are Victoria Beckham and Altuzarra, which gives you some idea of the competiton). His silhouettes are expertly tailored to look like a second skin, expertly rendered in leather and silk.

Leather continued to make the rounds though fashion week on Obando's runways in the form of tanks (yes, tanks) and pants, and even sometimes popping up in patchwork form -- sleeves added to an otherwise wool jacket, for example.

Other highlights of the show at MAC & Milk Studios downtown were are series of well-cut tie-waist shifts -- part professional ensemble, part ladylike coat, all-in-one chic -- as well as black-and-neutral dresses with delicately-ruched wrapping at the bust to create a graphic, slightly bondage effect. Well, that and the wildly over-the-top thigh-high, lace-up, high-heel boots that many of the models were wearing, which often extended past the skirt line to look like lace-up leather leggings.
