While John Galliano the man may have been at the center of attention as he stood trial for public insult in Paris, the creative team behind his namesake label (from which he was dismissed this spring) blazed forward with the next round of collections.
According to WWD, menswear will be presented in Milan tonight, followed by the unveiling of Resort 2012 -- a collection CEO Pierre Denis indicated was generating a strong response from the industry so far.
“There has been a lot of interest, a lot of appointments booked, so we will see,” ceo Pierre Denis told WWD on Thursday. “Obviously it has been a complicated year, but people are keen to support the house, and we are producing great collections. I hope this will be reflected in the sales.”
Denis reiterated his faith in a team, with the former designer's right-hand man, Bill Gaytten still on board, "that can truly capture the Galliano DNA." In that vein, the collection, inspired by 1920s jazz singer Bessie Smith, includes tweed suits, trenchcoats and feminine dresses.
Galliano's sentence -- prosecutors seek a minimum of $14,300 in fines -- will be delivered September 8, shortly before the label presents its spring 2012 collection at Paris fashion week.
