How to style neon brights.
It's easy to be intimidated by shockingly-bright shades of neon, but with a few styling tricks, you'll be feeling the florescent trend in no time. Here, we paired a saturated pink tunic by Michael Kors ($1196 at Net-a-Porter) with a pair of graphic black-and-white shorts to counter the bright color ($70 at Topshop). Metallic accessories act as neutrals: a pair of stylish strappy heels from Zara ($70 at Zara) and a geometric Madewell necklace ($48 at Madewell) add shine, but don't compete with the color.
Rebecca Taylor's neon yellow pullover ($295 at Net-a-Porter) adds a preppy touch to a watercolor-print wrap skirt ($110 at Topshop) and black suede sandals ($124 at Topshop). Tom Binns' statement-making earrings ($190 at Net-a-Porter) pull together the color palette.
If a head-to-toe neon look isn't quite your speed, experiment with statement neon accessories to make a spring ensemble pop. We started with Phillip Lim's breezy white trousers ($375 at Forward Forward) and a graphic Matthew Williamson blouse ($825 at Net-a-Porter). A cream cardigan from J.Crew ($65 at J.Crew) makes the look practical for crisp spring weather, while Zara's neon sandals ($90 at Zara) and a pair of dangly pink earrings ($3.80 at Forever21) say "bring on the heat."
Simple and chic, we layered a subtly-striped blazer by Aubin and Willis ($485 at Net-a-Porter) over Topshop's neon T-shirt dress ($110 at Topshop). With a pair of sturdy K.Jacques sandals ($250 at Forward Forward) and a statement-making rope necklace ($12.80 at Forever21), the look works just as well on city sidewalks as it does on the beach.
Likewise, we added a little liveliness to a lacy cotton tank ($50 at Topshop) and Jil Sander's graphic "songbird" skirt ($1170 at Net-a-Porter) with a a neon green bag by Cambridge Satchel Co ($170 at J.Crew) and Tom Binn's florescent bead necklace ($625 at Forward Forward). Classic patent pumps ($100 at Zara) keep the ensemble ladylike.
