Longtime proprietor of Houston Street fixture Billy's Props & Antiques, William "Billy" Leroy, was arrested on Saturday, the charge being the selling of illegally obtained subway signs (for the last ten years).
It's a fair question -- where does he get those subway signs? After an eight-hour stint with the NYPD following his arrest, Billy will no longer be selling the subway signs, even though he maintains he's acquired them by legitimate sources throughout his tenure. What drama! We can't believe we were actually so close to seeing poor Billy's arrest during our Saturday afternoon meanderings around the Bowery.
