Ever since his return to womenswear in September of 2010, Tom Ford has been incredibly secretive with this collections' debuts, in an effort to preserve them from exposure too early. His latest offering for Fall '12 was arguably the most private yet, as the designer reportedly held small private appointments for select editors in London around London Fashion Week.
On Sunday, however, the collection got a debut on one of fashion's biggest stages: on the Academy Awards red carpet.
Gwyneth Paltrow wore a long white column gown with a matching cape by Ford that was universally-acknowledged to be one of the best looks of the night, and even added to the hype around her entrance by tweeting a picture of herself from insider her limo, revealing that she was wearing Tom Ford.
While Paltrow told Louise Roe on the red carpet that the slick white look was the only outfit she'd tried on for the event, she wasn't the only one who'd noticed the ensemble: The Daily Beast's Isabel Wilkinson remarked in her review of Ford's Fall '12 presentation that "A floor-length cream column dress with a matching cape (which Ford said was his favorite because it was “dead simple”) had any one of the best actress nominees written all over it."
In a sea of strapless confections and more traditional shimmer, Paltrow's crisp white look was the night's most refreshingly original.
