Harper's Bazaar's Glenda Bailey Loves Pre-Seasons, and Lanvin Especially

We caught up with the editor-in-chief of Harper's Bazaar at last night's Geoffrey Beene Scholarship Awards dinner, where she raved about Lanvin's pre-fall collection, and about pre-season collections overall.

The moody, luxurious Lanvin presentation, she said, reminded her a lot of a BBC show she loves called "Downton Abbey," set in the fictional home of the Earl of Grantham during the reign of King George V. The dresses toed the line between day and night dressing, which is, she said, "just what people want right now."

When asked how she felt about the rash of pre-seasons, which has started to prove exasperating for even folks over at WWD, she said she actually loved all of it. "Any opportunity for another fashion show!" she laughed.

A self-proclaimed "bad designer" who once studied fashion at Kingston, Bailey's advice for the upstarts being honored was simple: "Don't be delusional. Be realistic about what you are really good at … Find some area of the industry that you love, where you can really shine."
