Cacharel Taps New Designers to Revamp Brand for Spring 2012

Cacharel has hired Chinese design duo Ling Liu and Dawei Sun of the label Belle Ninon to replace former designer Cédric Charlier, who was somewhat surprisingly let go in March, despite a well-received final collection for the house. The duo's debut collection for Spring 2012 will be presented in October at Paris fashion week, WWD reports.

Liu and Sun replace Cédric Charlier, who was somewhat surprisingly let go in March, despite a well-received final collection for the house. Prior to Charlier, the nearly-50-year-old brand had endured a decade of relatively high turnover, with husband-and-wife team Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribiero departing in 2007 after six years to launch their namesake line, and successors Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto lasting only two seasons.

The latest designers to step up come with similarly strong resumes as their predecessors: Liu spent time at YSL, and Sun, at Galliano, and both award-winning designers have worked for Balenciaga.

According to the report, Cacharel's latest hire comes on the heels of the venerable company's restructuring that included the sale of outlet stores and the menswear division.
