ABC News sat down with the charming and talented Mr. Oldfield last week, as he speculated, along with the rest of us, what to expect when it comes to Kate Middleton's wedding gown.
Firstly, the designer offered up that Middleton would likely wear not one, but two dresses: One for the wedding itself, and then something less conservative for the reception later that evening.
Despite the fact that Oldfield is still playing coy on who will be designing the dresses (he's been the hands-down favorite, but others have speculated he's definitely out of the running), he offered several clues as to the ceremony gown:
"I'm sure the dress is going to be modest," Oldfield says. "In terms of coverage, it has to be.
"It will have sleeves. It has to have sleeves. You can't walk down Westminster Abbey in a strapless dress."
"It has to suit the grandeur of that aisle," Oldfield adds.
"I can predict she will wear a veil. That was, to me, the most poignant part of Diana's wedding: As she was walking up the aisle, her eyes were going left to right, looking at people and smiling. That was great."
Considering Middleton's penchant for elegant, flattering dresses, we're betting she'll be more predictable than avant-garde, but the designer still remains to be unveiled. Granted, Oldfield did liken Middleton's mother, Carole, to Carla Bruni, and we hear flattery tends to work wonders on influential mothers of the bride.
