In terms of key accessories, artfully-manicured nails are becoming as important as handbags, jewelry or shoes. CND nail artist Candice Manacchio really nailed it this season (see what we did there?) with her "starry night" nails for Rachel Antonoff, which were designed to evoke the night sky over a blue lake.

Dashing Diva's "Cyber Rainbow" nails for Jeremy Scott were a perfect accompaniment to models' multi-colored wigs and bright blue lipstick.

Polka-dotted nails like the black-and-white manicure at Kate Spade make a major statement, yet are fairly simple to recreate at home.

Red lips and strong brows were a key beauty trend this season, and there's no better nail compliment for the look than a classic shade of burgundy like this one at Naeem Khan.

Burgundy nails also made an appearance at Catherine Malandrino's fall presentation, where the color perfectly balanced a smokey gray cat-eye and nude lip.

Deep burgundy was also the hue of choice at Correll Correll, this time in a slightly darker, brownish blend.

Sleek nude and putty nails were also trending for fall. At Victoria Beckham, the look was given a seductive twist with the addition of "fishnet" tips (look closely to see the texture).

CND's "Marshmallow Rose" was the nude shade of choice at NAHM, were artists were asked to create a look to complimented the collection's strong, confident heroine.

Dark navy nails were a major trend this fashion week. One of our favorite shades -- CND's "Midnight Sapphire" -- cropped up on Karen Walker's nautical-inspired runway,

Navy nails also appeared on a number of Fashion Week attendees. This editor let us snap picture of her cool-blue talons.
Sporty short nails are always a go-to on the runways, but we found ourselves gravitating towards slightly longer nail looks this season. A long, jet-black manicure at Jen Kao, for example, felt edgy and cool.

Rachel Roy also tried a jet-black look for fall 2012, which contrasted nicely against her studded leather clutches.

Nicole Miller's fun, rainbow-colored "spiral" nails added a playful punch to her streamlined Fall '12 collection.

In addition to the models, we spotted shiny metallic accents and gold leaf flourishes on the nail and makeup artists themselves. This wonderfully shimmery look is at the top of our "DIY" list.

Likewise, we couldn't resist taking an Instagram snap of these glistening emerald bad boys, which we spotted on RED PR's Julia Labaton.

Nail art at The Blonds is always something special. This season, CND whipped up a range of different styles to accompany the biker-inspired fall collection. Our favorite: real leather nails in dark black.

In contrast, the look at Preen was almost nude -- a clay-like beige by Revlon.
