The Plaza Heads West, Bulks Up on ‘Roids

With its boxing matches, death-defying stunt show, shopping mall and clientele of high-rolling foreigners, The Plaza may already feel like a Las Vegas hotel. But you can't just pick up a landmark and drop it on the Strip, so Plaza owner Elad Properties is building a look-alike out in the desert. Do they match? Kinda. Vegas' Plaza will be a 15-million-square-foot megaresort with 3,500 hotel rooms and convention space. Just like in New York, Vegas's version will have condos and a shopping component called the Plaza Retail Collection. Unlike in New York, a pit boss will break your hand in a back room if you try anything funny.
