The Israeli Consulate is Now Taking Questions via Twitter

The Israeli consulate in New York City has set up a Twitter account aiming to open up Israel to the public's burning questions, and since the 1 p.m. start of a public "press conference" on the microblogging website Tuesday, the majority of users have been asking "why the violence?"

One user, joelpollack, recently asked, "What is the objective of the Gaza operation? To deter Hamas? To detsroy Hamas? Also, what is your PR plan for next week #askisrael," to which the Consulate answered, in all caps, "STOP ROCKET FIRE ON 500K ISRAELIS."

To watch the live feed of the questions and responses, use search tag #AskIsrael on Twitter, linked here.  They'll be taking questions through 3pm, after which everyone will try to make sense of what just happened.  They are currently getting inundated with responses, and have asked people to be patient in a recent tweet, which reads, "We are flooded with questions, we are trying to keep up, please be patient!"
