Tenacious D to Conquer Hammerstein

It's not the multinight run at Madison Square Garden worthy of the greatest rock band of all time, but it will do.

Rock parody group Tenacious D will play Hammerstein Ballroom on June 28 in support of their upcoming album Rize of the Fenix; tickets go on sale here on Friday.

Tenacious D have been inactive since the release of the 2006 film and soundtrack Tenacious D In The Pick of Destiny, probably because they realized it was not fair for mere mortals to have to compete with gods such as themselves.

In all seriousness, it's nice to have these two goofs back, though we admit to being curious as to whether they will still perform "Dio" live, or if it would be in bad taste ... or if that's exactly why they should perform it.  What would Ronnie want, anyway? (By all accounts, he was supposedly flattered by the tribute.)

Fenix was produced by John Kimbrough, and as always, features drums from D Fan #1 Dave Grohl. You can check out the first single and video "To Be the Best" over here
