Talib Kweli: Brooklyn Finally Has Its Own Party Scene

Talib Kweli is known for name-checking his native borough in his hard-hitting rhymes, but the Brooklyn MC revealed at Soho House last night that he hasn't been able to get his party on in BK.

"I like what's happening in Brooklyn right now," he said. "I'm from Brooklyn, but I've never been able to party in Brooklyn. And now I can."

At the launch party for Tanqueray’s We Resist Simple blog, a new lifestyle site that Kweli contributes to, the MC got real about the city’s finicky nightlife trends.

“New York is such a fluid city that everything changes so often. By the time something becomes your favorite it’s something different,” said Kweli who welcomes the steady uptick in Brooklyn’s late-night options.

The hip hop star, who maintains at residency at Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Bowl, revealed his current favorite off-duty haunt is in stroller-friendly Park Slope.

“I like going to Southpaw and seeing shows,” said Kweli, noting that he checked out the venue twice over the weekend to take in performances by The Roots drummer Questlove and British producer Mark Ronson.

As a We Resist Simple contributor, Kweli joins a diverse group of creative bloggers such as DJ Cassidy, music video director Vashtie and entrepreneur Coltrane Curtis, who all toasted the site's launch at Soho House.

Kweli mentioned he hasn’t decided what to blog about but tooling around hipster-centric Brooklyn is probably good for the creative juices.
