Study: More Docs Prescribe Yoga for Sick Patients

More doctors are prescribing yoga for their patients, especially those who have worn out traditional health-care routes to address their illnesses, according to a new study.

More than 6.3 million Americans use mind-body therapies, including meditation, based on a referral from their physicians, according to a Harvard study reported Tuesday in the Daily News.

That compares with 34.8 million who seek those therapies themselves without doctor's orders, according to the paper.

A lead researcher said the study raised questions of whether yoga could have helped avoid needless use of the health-care system if it had been prescribed earlier by doctors.
