Scissor Sisters Headline One Step Beyond Party

Space: the fabulous frontier.

This month’s installment of the American Museum of Natural History’s One Step Beyond dance party, held in the imposing Hayden Planetarium, boasts New York’s own Scissor Sisters as guest DJs.

Downtown’s giddy, disco-rock stalwarts will being their first-ever hometown set to the museum on February 4. Opening turnablist (or “returning comet,” per the party’s genially punny press release) is Lauren Flax of Young Turks, with support from residents Activaire. The One Step Beyond ticket also includes admittance to the current movie in Hayden, Cosmic Collisions, narrated by Robert Redford and probably an excellent drinking game. (“He said Chandrasekhar limit! Everybody take a shot!”)

Scissor Sisters
--vocalists Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, multi-instrumentalist Babydaddy, lead guitar/bassist Del Marquis, and drummer Randy Real—will spin in support of their infectious third album, Night Work, released last summer. Their campy, intelligent charm and already extraterrestrial stage garb (you thought you’d seen sequins before) are a ready fit for the trippy One Step Beyond series. (Last month, Matt and Kim DJed the party with iron, gangsta-rap fists.)

Tickets are currently on sale.
