As Burlesque: The Movie hits theaters (and you know you want to go see it, because it looks like it might be so bad that it wraps right back around to good), burlesque: the genre gets a notable entry this weekend in the form of Material Girls: The Burlesque Tribute to Madonna at Joe’s Pub.
From Casino O'Fortune Cookie Productions, the people behind a recent burly Q Patrick Swayze tribute, comes an all-singing, all-dancing, all-tassel-twirling extravaganza inspired by, set to the music of, and generally worshipping Madonna. Expect plenty of lace, crucifixes and bullet bras as burlesque performers like Clams Casino, Anita Cookie and Legs Malone breathe new life into the music of La Ciccone, while generally warming your chestnuts at the kickoff of the holiday season. We’re quite sure the Material Girl herself, never one to shy away from stripping down, would approve.
