Rumor Confirmed: Midtown's Giant Windmill Revealed

Back in July, we got a little over-excited about a Curbed tipster's report that "a New York city architectural firm" was "designing a tower with a giant wind turbine for its top" on 34th Street. The proposed hotel's topping would, our tipster continued, "generate such a minute portion of the building's electricity that it is functionally irrelevant." Still, our mind raced with images of Al Gore ribbon-cuttings and a bitchin' rooftop miniature golf course. That was then. Now we've stumbled upon a 28-story hotel design on the website of the Stephen B. Jacobs Group with an address of 45 East 33rd Street, and wouldn't you know it, there's our windmill! OK, so it's slightly less gigantic and dramatic than we had originally hoped, but hey, we're used to rooftop shrinkage. Consider us firmly in the pro-windmill camp.
