Rumor: Kanye West Designing a Line for Gap

In the continuing "is he or isn't he" saga of the hip-hop star pursuing a career in fashion, the Chicago Tribune is reporting that he might even be putting his creative stamp on something.

Insiders have been buzzing since July that West was interning at the retail goliath, but this is the first we've heard that West might be flexing his creative muscles over there. Specifically, the Tribune's report claims that Kanye has been working "side-by-side" with lead designer Patrick Robinson over at the Gap, and now "it has been speculated West is looking to launch a line of clothing for the Gap, but so far, those reports have not been confirmed."

Now, we're not exactly surprised that people are speculating on the matter, considering West has become quite the fashion fixture of late -- exhibit A: his ultra-expensive sneakers for Louis Vuitton -- though he's also rumored to be a lot of things, like, say, "The King of Pop" (which he vehemently denies).

All that said, we're with the folks over at The Cut in thinking a personality like Kanye is exactly what the Gap would need to revitalize its brand presence in the industry. Sooner or later, somebody has to confirm something, right?
