Rocket Throwing: Another Queens icon from the 1964-65…

Another Queens icon from the 1964-65 World's Fair in Flushing Meadows Park has been allowed to go to crap and needs help. No, not this one. It's the Rocket Thrower sculpture and it needs a benefactor with $250,000 to restore it and stabilize the base. The Municipal Art Society is trying to find someone help out the old Rocket Thrower via its Adopt-a-Monument program. Efforts to keep the sculpture throwing the rocket have been going on since 1987. Eleven years? Seriously? [Queens Chronicle]
