Earlier in the day DBTH reported that the nightclub Cain would be closing on Friday, per an email blast from owner Jamie Mulholland. He then backpedaled, saying maybe Cain was getting a renovation. To end the confusion we checked in with Cain official of a nebulous nature, Steven Kamali, who confirmed the place was indeed closing for renos.
He reports it will close for three weeks for a 300K gut renovation, and the new design, also by Rob McKinley, will reveal an entirely new venue. It will be the same name, same owners, same location, but a new design, updated for 2008. Why does it sound like it's closing, per the email Jamie sent around to friends? Because the old Cain is closing insomuch as it'll look and feel like a new club when it reopens.
