Related's Ross: Hudson Yards Fine, But About That Other Thing…

In his Realty Check column this week, Steve Cuozzo drops his dipstick into a big vat of West Side doom and gloom, and what comes out will neither depress nor delight. Condé Nast has been chatting with both Brookfield Properties and Related about a move to either BP's Manhattan West or the big R's Hudson Yards in 2019, but now the publisher may be getting cold feet and eying an extension in Times Square. The Cuozz asked Related Chairman Stephen Ross—the most adorable man who could have our families killed (right)—about the negotiations, and while he wouldn't comment on the potential anchor tenant, he did mention the status of some Related projects in light of all the turmoil. Ross isn't sold that the commercial real estate market is screwed, saying of Hudson Yards, "I don't think that what I like to believe is an aberration will affect those plans." However, not everything gets the Ross pep talk. Of the mysterious project at 740 Eighth Avenue planned with Mort Zuckerman's Boston Properties, Ross said, "Could something like this be delayed? It could be - we have to look at the market and assess it with Boston." Ruh-roh. Will the giant hole become the new Times Square tourist must-see?
