Red Hook Design Competition Winners Revealed

This is a good day for people that enjoy renderings of things that may or may never happen. In this case, it's the winners of the Red Hook Bicycle Design Master Plan Competition sponsored by the Forum for Urban Design. There is one winner among the six finalists and a lot of honorable mentions up on the website. The ultimate aim was to come up with ides to turn the neighborhood into "the most bicycle friendly neighborhood in all of New York," which is a challenge to say the least, given that it could also become the biggest big-box store friendly nabe in the city given enough time. Do check out the re-imagined Smith-9th St. Station renderings, which are enough to bring tears to the eyes of anyone that is forced to use that thing, whether they ride bikes or not.
