Save your nickels: Record Store Day is back.

The next installment of the annual celebration of independent record stores and music merchants will be April 16, Pitchfork announced yesterday.

The event features sales, artist signings, exclusive merchandise, and live music throughout the city and is a huge boon for these small stores. It’s an international event, with participating vendors as far as Hong Kong, Australia, and Sweden, and particularly popular in New York: in the past few years, Other Music in East Village and Sound Fix in Williamsburg have distinguished themselves as top Record Store Day destinations for their packed schedules of in-store performances.

This year’s Record Store Day event calendar has not yet been released, but Pitchfork theorizes that hardcore punk wonders F*cked Up are planning to release their new rock opera, David Comes to Life, on that day.
