Recession Special: Avalanche of Halloween and Election Day Discounts

Shops are tossing out all sorts of themed incentives to get customers in the door these days. Some are using Halloween as an excuse to for small discounts and treats, like handbag and clothing boutique Hayden-Harnett, who will be offering door prizes from 4 to 8pm at their Greenpoint location tomorrow as well as wine and 20% off everything in the store. Meatpacking District boutique Elizabeth Charles is taking 30% off all orange or black clothing for the Halloween weekend. And handbag designer Anya Hindmarch is offering shoppers the chance to win a free bag from her Autumn/Winter 2008 collection tomorrow.

Other stores are capitalizing on Election Day fever. Trina Turk will take 20% off if you can produce an "I Voted" sticker or a general election ballot stub. They're a little less generous at French Connection, where proof that you voted gets you a 15% discount on your purchase. Perhaps the best Election Day deal of all comes from Babeland, who will give out free silver bullet vibes or "Maverick" penis sleeves if you can show a voter registration card or voting stub. Free sex toys—not a bad prize for simply casting your ballot.
