Quick Hits: Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij @ Apple Store Fri

Apple’s Meet the Musician Series welcomes Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend at the Apple Store in Soho tonight. The multitasking musician (he writes music, plays keyboards and guitar, and also provides backing vocals in the band) will chat with moderator Emily Lazar, founder and chief mastering engineer of downtown recording facility The Lodge.

The pair will nerd out about various new projects he’s working on, including his solo side project Boys like Us, recent collaboration with contemporary classical group the Calder Quartet, and his foray into film scoring—he wrote the minimalist music (in 10 days!) for Zal Batmanglij’s psychological thriller Sound of My Voice, a film about a couple who join a cult, which just premiered at Sundance to much critical acclaim. (And yes, they’re brothers.) Check out the score in this clip, below.

Speaking of Vampire Weekend, their currently-for-sale live iTunes studio session EP (where they’re joined by a w3ildly catchy three-piece horn section) is on sale now, and includes a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm Goin' Down."

Meet the Musician: Rostam Batmanglij. Friday, March 4, 7-8PM. Apple Store, 103 Prince Street; 212-226-3126.
