Yes, we admit to being obsessed with the sad fate of Philip Johnson's icon, landmark New York State Pavilion in Flushing Meadow Park. It was built for the 1964-65 World's Fair and has been slowly falling apart for almost 45 years. Queens Crap got some pictures showing that things are getting way worse. This is not to be confused with the city ripping down parts of the structure. The landmark may be added to the National Register of Historic Places (duh), but one wonders: if a building falls down from neglect, is there anything to landmark? Or if you landmark something and the Parks Department still lets it continue to rot, does gravity respect the meaning of landmarking? Enjoy the greenery.
