The first time this writer heard Psychedelic Furs was during the opening in scene in the John Hughes classic ‘80s teen movie Pretty In Pink which featured their hit song with the same name.

Though this was several years after the 1986 original release, the alternative emo-dance track stood the test of time -- and still does.  The Furs' signature sound also served as a crucial blueprint to the Britpop sound of the early ‘90s and gave way for bands like the Verve, Oasis and Blur.

Another crucial element is frontman Richard Butler’s signature deadpan raspy vocals that seamlessly heightened the guitar-synth sound, making them one of the best bands to come out of London.

Psychedelic Furs released seven albums until their breakup in 1991 (Butler and his brother went on to form another influential band Love Spit Love), the band did get back together in 2000 and even released a re-mastered version of their 1981 album Talk Talk Talk last year
