Prairie Girl Meets Biker Chic at S+B

Not every woman can pull off a navy, crystal-embroidered faille smoking suit. Not every woman can make a tiered lace prairie skirt look like a red carpet must-have, which is why Sachin + Babi is a preferred brand for so many starlets.

Spring 2013 proves to be yet another one aimed at sartorially audacious women who don’t shy away from the spotlight. Inspired by a photo by Ryan Holden Singer of a man motorcycling through the desert posed with his chopper, the collection is a mix of Laura Ingalls meets Lara Croft and Charlie’s Angels—a gal who could kick butt in a maxi dress and still keep her hair in gorgeous tact.

With Babi’s sense of feminism and love of beautiful details, and Sachin’s fashion background and tailoring skills, it’s no wonder the two can work with the silhouettes that many designers abandoned this season.

Their spin on skinny pants—a cognac suede patchwork and an eggshell stretch linen cargo with metallic paillette embroidery—truly displays the nuances of the brand’s style. Even olive green military-like pieces were enriched by feminine details and cuts (cargo hotpants, anybody?).

Standout looks were the black metallic sequined embroidered tulle dress that we think Jennifer Lopez will be the first to call bids on, a dress with red scroll embroidery on blue silk organza, and the appropriately dramatic finale look: a brilliant red and black, crystal-embroidered cardigan with red crochet bikini top and red multi-layer tulle embroidered skirt.
