Open New Year's Day: Coney Island to Central Park Zoo

Geggenheim, MoMA, ice rinks also open January 1

After the confetti goes up and the ball comes down, you may be looking to greet 2009 from somewhere other than your bathroom floor.

If so, your options are plentiful as there will be many museums, zoos, concerts and shows open on New Year's Day in New York .

Both the Guggenheim and Museum of Modern Art will be open January 1.

The Coney Island Museum will be open right after the Coney Island Polar Bear Club takes its New Year's Day dip. And while the Merchant's House Museum is hosting a traditional New Year’s Day Open House, the Museum of Sex can be counted on for the unconventional, and then some.

For the ambitious, you can head to Fort Tilden in Breezy Point for an 11 a.m. New Year's Day Beach Walk hosted by the American Littoral Society and NYC Audubon.

See the NewYorkology city guide for a full list of New Year's Day options.
