Old Christmas Tree, Old Christmas Tree

It's beginning to look a lot less like Christmas.

That's because New York City's annual Christmas-tree recycling program has begun.

From now until January 15th, sanitation workers will pick up trees that are left along the curb.

Before you put your tree out, though, you need to make sure that all decorations are removed, as well as the tree stand.

And don't put your tree in a plastic bag.

If you want to hang on to your tree until the weekend, the parks and recreation department will hold its annual Mulchfest this Saturday and Sunday.

You can have your tree turned into mulch at any one of 80 sites across the city.

You can get more information by going to the Mulchfest website, calling 3-1-1 or by visiting www.nyc.gov/parks or www.nyc.gov/sanitation.

The compost will be processed and subsequently spread upon parks, ball fields, and community gardens throughout the city.
