From the Saturday Times: "Existing home sales ... rose 5.5 percent in September over the previous month and 1.4 percent over the last 12 months. The national numbers were buoyed mostly by foreclosure sales in the West. The National Association of Realtors, the group that released the numbers on Friday, estimated that 35 to 40 percent of resold homes nationwide were distressed assets."
