Valentino Still Happy With His Successors

Valentino Garavani seems to have finally stopped stressing out about his successors at the house of Valentino. Though the nicest thing he ever said about Alessandra Facchinetti — who was fired after less than a year at the design helm — was that she's pretty, he says he wants his "assistants" to do their best (the label is now helmed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, who used to design accessories for the house). He denied any involvement with the fall 2009 collection and adds he's glad he left the business before the economy went to hell. We are too, if only because it made way for his tour of the daytime talk-show circuit (Oprah, The View, Martha Stewart Show...). [WWD]
