Is La Nacional in Danger?

Serious Eats reprints a distressing e-mail from a volunteer who is “trying desperately to save a New York institution.” The institution in question is the Spanish Benevolent Society, located in a brownstone housing one of our favorite restaurants in the city, La Nacional. Our love of this hidden spot’s paella and its café’s rough-hewn charm is no secret (in fact, we’re mentioned in the letter) — this is the place to watch Real Madrid games, and the sort of tapas bar where English is definitely the second language. The full letter, including information on upcoming fund-raiser events, is over at Serious Eats.
