Food Fight Adds More Aspirational Burgers and Mini-Cupcakes to Macdougal Street

Minetta Tavern’s burger is no longer the new kid on the block. Yesterday, Danny Omari opened Food Fight, specializing in mini-burgers similar to the ones he served at Upstairs (the defunct lounge above his restaurant Café Bari) for $23 for three. Rest assured these are a lot cheaper, and though Omari isn’t giving up French Culinary Institute alum Uri Vidman’s recipe, he says they consist of “different parts of beef that are more high-quality.” In fact he goes so far as to say, “If you compare a Kobe burger at a high-end restaurant, I don’t even think it comes close.” The fries are double-battered for extra crispiness, and the sauces (including a signature blend that’s similar to 1,000 Island dressing) are homemade. For dessert: mini-cupcakes from Baked by Melissa (competition for Tonnie's Minis next door). With only four stools at a wall counter, Food Fight is geared toward takeout (and delivery within a month). The one design flourish is a photo mural of models having a food fight. And if you happen to be a model, the menu, which follows, includes a “wimp burger.” (Wait, aren’t sliders wimp burgers to begin with?)
