Brooklyn's Newest Wineshop Will Make You See Double

If you feel vaguely disoriented walking down Atlantic Avenue between Hoyt and Bond Streets, blame Alyssa Becker. She recently shuttered her Boerum Hill wine bar, Donna Da Vine, only to open an identically named wineshop across the street. (Retail was always her intention, but permitting issues intervened.) The store, like the bar, reflects Becker’s New World bias, with 200 selections ranging mostly from $10 to $20, each displayed with a card offering a lively description and a helpful food match. Becker’s partial to the wines of Washington State, where she traveled when she lived out west, working weekends on Napa and Sonoma vineyards and attending the extension program at UC Davis. Here’s one to keep in mind for Thanksgiving: Murphy’s Law Red 2005. Per the signage: “Totally packed with currant jam, spiced plums and a vivacious and fresh acidity, it explodes with wild berries and that incredible Washington State ‘zing’ in the finish. Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah. Region: Columbia Valley, Washington State. Food Pairing: Roasted butternut squash.”

Donna Da Vine, 355 Atlantic Ave., nr. Hoyt St., Boerum Hill, Brooklyn; 718-643-2250.
