Anita Lo Confirms That Bar Q Has Closed

Anita Lo confirms rumors aired on Eater, that she’s closing Bar Q, despite a recent revamp. In fact, Saturday was its last night of business. “We’re looking into what’s going to be next,” she tells us, revealing that she’s considering a concept with a new partner, but is still undecided about whether or not she’ll stay in the space.

Lo says she had built a regular clientele, but after the economy tanked, business dropped off by 75 percent. “The weekends were still okay, but that wasn’t enough to sustain us,” she says. “The perception was that because it was Asian it was supposed to be cheaper. I don’t think high-end Asian does well in this economy.” Note to Shang. That said, she assures us Annisa is doing relatively well, and though she closed the 8th Street location of Rickshaw Dumpling Bar due to high rent, she is hoping to reopen it in midtown.
