Dogs played a role this week at the United Nations.

Dozens of New York police canines helped protect nearly 200 world leaders during the U.N. General Assembly.

They were rewarded with praise from Police Commissioner James O'Neill.

He says it's not an easy job for their handlers, all police officers, to be responsible for the animals 24 hours a day.

This week, they kept watch on the United Nations on Manhattan's East Side, sniffing for signs of bombs and any other suspicious activity in the streets surrounding the world body.

The four-pawed members of the New York Police Department apparently encountered no problems.
