This one is a serious bummer: the number of families going into city homeless shelters hit an all-time high last month. A record 1,464 families entered city shelters last month - the highest one-month gain since the city began keeping statistics 25 years ago. That's a 22% increase over last September and followed two months of similar highs. At the end of last month, 9,300 families with 15,000 children lived in shelters.
