Event architect Adam Aleksander threw a monster bash at a Brooklyn church gymnasium Sunday night that harkened back to childhood Halloweens of yore.
The host, wearing a red cape and white tux, threw an extravagant Gilt City Monster Mash party with all the holiday-appropriate fixings at St. Cecilia's in Brooklyn where drag queen wait staff tended to costume-clad guests who had been whisked to the event from Tribeca by school bus.
"I really like to transport people, and I think it's actually really cool when you're really convinced of something," Aleksander told Niteside. "I try to get people out of their expectations, to try to take down their comfort zone."
The party included a three-course meal prepared by a French Culinary Institute chef and served on lunch trays accompanied by plastic sporks. The cocktail menus were made out of old schoolbooks. Guests dined and danced against the backdrop of old-school music stylings such as "Johnny B. Goode" and "The Locomotion."
"[I] thought it would be fun to do a party that revived your spirit as a kid," Aleksander said. "Something kind of fun and wholesome."
California indie outfit Local Natives were among the roughly 200 guests who made an appearance at the event. They dished on their whirlwind weekend.
"We got into costume between the encores," Taylor Rice, dressed up as Mario, said about his show at Webster Hall Saturday night. "The energy was really high."
Added instrumentalist Kelsey Ayer, "We had such a fun time."
