Now (Almost) Open: Juicy Buffs Its Gilded Flagship

We have some disappointing news for shoppers who hoped to nip out to buy a bit of velour over lunch: Juicy Couture's understated new 17,000-square-foot Fifth Avenue store is not open. When we dropped by this morning, security guard on the scene said to try back tomorrow, but from all the construction workers and equipment littering the space we predict a Monday opening. Past the eye-catching gold exterior, we spotted massive wrapped-up chandeliers hanging like pupa above ornate wrought-iron staircases and staffers steaming clothing behind a bubble-gum pink cashwrap.

Here's a little blurb from the press release that explains what the finished decor will look like:

Knights in pink armor stand guard alongside surfboards and taxidermy mounts sporting lipstick, pearl necklaces and jaunty chapeaux. Customers pass through double-height glass revealing an English Manor house façade, walking into an entry area distinguished by a “floating” stairway, bronze-and-wrought-iron railing and oversize crystal chandelier.

Sounds subtle. This will be the largest Juicy store in the world, so it's understandable that the might need some extra time to get the fragrance counter, shoe section and track suit bar (yes, a bar where you can get your sweats customized) just right.
